Caracas : Brazil defeated Chile 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the Copa America football tournament and will play Uruguay in the semis.

For the first time in the tournament, Brazil squad did not appear to miss the services of Ronaldinho or Kaka – who opted out to rest after a long European season.

An early goal from Roma defender Juan in the 15th minute paved the way for a real thrashing in Puerto La Cruz. It was followed by goals from Julio Baptista seven minutes later, Robinho on two occasions (minutes 27 and 50), Josue (in the 68th minute) and Vagner Love six minutes from time.

Humberto Suazo, Chile's best player in the Copa with a total of three goals, made it 5-1 in the 73rd minute. Robinho, with six goals in four games, is the tournament's top scorer.

The side coached by Carlos Dunga was the last team to reach the quarterfinals of the Copa America, after losing to Mexico by 2-0 in its tournament debut.

Only Saturday did it really show itself as a five-times' world champion and the football giant of the region. Several players were up to the task and backed Real Madrid striker Robinho who had up until them appeared to play almost alone in Venezuela.

Brazil will play Uruguay Tuesday, who also thrashed host Venezuela by 4-1 earlier Saturday.
