Dubai : An Indian working in Bahrain's capital Manama, who tried to commit suicide by swallowing insecticide because he said he had not been paid for months, is to be deported to India.
Sagar Rajendra Deore, 24, tried to kill himself Sunday by eating yoghurt mixed with insecticide.
He was found unconsciousness in his room by his friends and was taken to the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) there.
According to the Gulf Daily News, Deore told hospital authorities that he tried to end his life because he had not been paid his salary since he joined Vienna Vending Machines, a Manama based firm, after reaching Bahrain from Mumbai three months ago.
After he was discharged Monday, Deore was taken to a police station.
"He was found crying at times and on inquiry said that he felt worthless because he couldn't manage to send home a single penny since he came to Bahrain a couple of months ago. He said he had to mortgage property back home to pay for the visa and air ticket to get here but was never paid his salary," a hospital staff said.
Meanwhile, Bahrain's interior ministry sources told the paper that Deore did not have a valid residence permit and was thus an illegal resident.
Vienna Vending Machines managing director Bassam Al Hassan said he was sending Deore home but refused to discuss the allegation that he had not been paid.
"He was a trouble-maker and has created many problems," said Al Hassan. "I don't want him to work here anymore and the company has got him an air ticket.
"It is not the business of anyone to inquire if we paid him or not. He is our employee and so we have complete rights over him."
Officials confirmed that a ticket was being provided by the company and Deore would be flown out Wednesday, once the immigration formalities were dealt with.
