Donaueschingen (Germany) : Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is to retire from active football at the end of the coming season and sees his future in Asia, he said Friday.
“It’s absolutely clear to me that this will be my last season,” the 38-year-old former Germany captain said at Bayern’s training camp in Donaueschingen in southern Germany.
Kahn said he wanted to “spend a lot of time” in Asia where he hoped to work in a goalkeeping coaching capacity.
Kahn has played more than 400 Bundesliga games for Bayern after joining the club in 1994 from Karlsruhe.
He retired from international duty after the 2006 World Cup in Germany where he lost his place in the German side to Arsenal’s Jens Lehmann.
The last of his 86 caps came in the match for third place against Portugal on July 8 last year.
