Rains have been particularly harsh in north Kerala, especially in Kozhikode and Kannur.

According to officials, four deaths have occurred in Kozhikode while one person was reported dead in Idukki district. Reports indicate that the rains have also caused losses to property and crops in the state.

Heavy downpour has also disrupted traffic movement from Kannur to Wayanad as the roads linking the districts were damaged.

In Kottayam district heavy rains triggered landslides near a railway track, hitting the Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai super fast train engine at around 10 p.m. Monday.
