New Delhi: An altercation over a minor collision led five men on motorcycles to stone to death the driver of a car in south Delhi’s Saket area in what Delhi Police Tuesday said was an incident of road rage.
Jitender Pawar, 35, was beaten with sticks and finally bashed with a huge concrete slab late Monday by the men. Four of them – Sandeep, Chander, Rakesh and Suresh, all in their 20s – have been arrested while the fifth, Murari, is absconding.
Pawar, a nephew of former Delhi mayor Satbir Singh, was returning home to Mehrauli in his Maruti Zen when he collided with a motorbike with two men near Lado Sarai traffic signal at around 10.30 p.m. Monday. An altercation between them followed.
Three others riding a CBZ motorcycle joined their friends and the five chased the victim’s car to some distance and stopped him.
“They had another altercation with Pawar, which led to scuffle, They then hit Pawar with sticks and after he fell down one of them picked up a heavy concrete slab from the road and hit him on the head with it,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Shukla said.
Policemen on night patrol took the victim to the nearby All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he succumbed to his injuries.
The arrested are from Khanpur area. One of them sustained a cut on his face while escaping through a barbed wire fencing after the incident.
On the basis of eyewitness accounts, police launched in a search and arrested Sandeep from Khanpur, Shukla said.
“Sandeep has confessed to his involvement. At his instance the other assailants were also arrested. They have disclosed the name of the fifth accused, who is absconding. He works as a driver in a private firm,” Shukla added.
