Jaipur : A case of murder has been registered against nine senior Rajasthan government officials, including a police superintendent, following the death of a farmer in a police assault.
"We have booked a case of murder against Sri Ganganagar's Superintendent of Police Vinita Thakur, former collector K.L. Meena, and seven others," a police official from the district told IANS.
On July 16, a judicial magistrate in Sri Ganganagar's Gharsana town, over 500 km from here, directed the authorities to register the case against the nine.
The directive came after the father of Chandu Ram Saran, a farmer who was killed in a lathi-charge by the police, filed a complaint in the court.
Saran alleged that all these officers were responsible for his son's death. The farmer was part of protests demanding more water for irrigation.
