New Delhi : Imam Shahi Masjid Jama Masjid Delhi Maulana Syed Ahmad Bukhari has demanded that all those responsible for demolition of centuries old Babri Masjid and causing communal flare-ups in different parts of the country including Mumbai should also be brought to book.

Reacting to the award of capital punishment for six persons proved guilty in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, Maulana Bukhari hoped that the killers of hundreds of innocent persons during the December 1992 and January 1993 communal riots would be brought to book in the same way as those guilty of 1993 Mumbai blasts so that the demand of justice might be fulfilled in a quite unbiased manner.

"In the wake of Babri Masjid demolition in 1992 hundreds of innocents persons were done to death during the worst communal riots erupted in different towns and cities including Mumbai, Surat and Delhi. And the 1993 Mumbai blasts were said to be the expression of hurt feelings of the demolition. The government machinery did act fast to bring to book the accused in the blasts cases. But the same machinery is going with snail pace in the cases of Babri Masjid demolition and communal riots that erupted in its wake," he lamented in a statement released here Thursday.

Justice Srikrishna Commission was constituted to probe into the communal riots in Mumbai and elsewhere, and the commission submitted its report holding the persons of Sangh Parivar responsible for those communal riots. But the Srikrishna Commission Report does not find any mention anywhere, not to say of implementing its recommendations.

Maulana Bukhari said this double-standard in delivering justice gives way to a situation in which the communal and anti-national elements create communal tension and choose to go on killing spree.
