Taliban commander shot dead in Pakistan

Islamabad : A top Taliban commander was shot dead by unidentified gunmen Wednesday in Boghra area of Pakistan's restive North-West Frontier Province (NWFP), Geo TV said.

Mullah Naimatullah, Taliban commander in Afghanistan, was leaving his brother's house in NWFP capital Balochistan's Qilla Abdullah district when gunmen ambushed and opened burst of fires at him.

The slain guerrilla commander was on a family visit in Boghra since Tuesday, a police officer told Geo.

The officer said that that unidentified gunmen Wednesday also shot dead two Uzbek nationals near Zharaband on Quetta-Chaman National Highway.

At least 15 Uzbeks were in a pickup truck travelling to Quetta from Afghanistan when militants attacked them, said the police. Thirteen of them were still missing.

Security in the area has been put on high alert following the incidents.
