Up to 20 killed in Baghdad car bombing

By Xinhua

Baghdad : The casualties from a car bomb explosion in central Baghdad on Thursday rose to 20 killed and up to 60 others wounded, an Interior Ministry source said.

"Our latest reports said that at least 20 people were killed and 60 others were wounded in the attack," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The car bomb went off at about 6:30 p.m. (1430 GMT) in a crowded commercial area near the Saba Qsour Intersection in Karradah neighborhood, the source said.

The powerful blast set a nearby building on fire and destroyed several civilian cars and shops, the source added. Daily bombings and violence continued infesting Baghdad streets despite more than five-month-old U.S.-Iraqi security plan designed to put down insurgency and sectarian violence in the capital.
