Kabul : Afghan police and US-led coalition forces killed over 20 militants in Kandahar province of southern Afghanistan, a military statement said Tuesday.
The forces came under a militant attack in Shah Wali Kot district Monday, said the statement, adding in the retaliatory fire during which air support was also used nearly two-dozen enemy fighters were killed.
Kandahar has been the birthplace and a stronghold of the Taliban movement. Due to rising Taliban-linked insurgency, over 1,800 people, most of whom were Taliban militants, have been killed in Afghanistan this year.
