One sentenced to life for Mumbai blasts

Mumbai : A special anti-terror court here Thursday sentenced one man to life and another to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for their role in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

Judge P.D. Kode of the TADA Court awarded life imprisonment to Sheikh Ali Sheikh Kumar for criminal conspiracy. He was also awarded sentences ranging from seven to 14 years in jail on four other counts. He was asked to pay a fine of Rs.150,000.

The court sentenced mobster Ejaz Pathan to 10 rigorous imprisonment on three counts. He was also awarded another term of nine years in prison running concurrently and asked to pay a fine of Rs.225,000.

Pathan, said to be linked to mobster Dawood Ibrahim, was extradited from Dubai in 2003.

So far a total 73 people have been sentenced in the Mumbai terror blasts that claimed 257 lives. The remaining 27 convicted, including Sanjay Dutt, have been asked to be present in court on June 14.
