Russian, Indian energy majors to sign deal on hydro plants

St. Petersburg : Russia's electricity giant Unified Energy System (UES) and India's Sun Group will sign an agreement to build several hydroelectric power plants in India and Nepal, the head of UES said Saturday.

Speaking at the 11th St. Petersburg International Economic, Anatoly Chubais said: "At the forum, we plan to sign a memorandum of cooperation with one of India's largest corporations, Sun Group, on setting up a venture to build hydro electric power plants in India and Nepal on a parity basis."

A Sun Group top executive said his company would sign a memorandum of cooperation with Russia's HydroOGK, a hydropower wholesale generating company controlled by UES.
