Bhubaneswar : Police claimed to have shot dead two Maoist guerrillas in Orissa's Dhenkanal district Sunday and detained four people for their alleged involvement in Maoists' activities.
The deceased – a man and a woman – were killed during a gunbattle between Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel and a group of Maoists in a forest near Kankadahandi police post area, about 140 km from here, police said.
The Maoists took away the bodies of the deceased after the gunbattle that lasted about half an hour, Deputy Inspector General of Police (northern range) Arun Kumar Sarangi said.
"Police have seized a cache of arms and ammunition including a rifle, a revolver, a flask bomb, 75 live bullets and Maoist uniforms from the spot," Sarangi added.
