Wellington : Deposed Fiji prime minister Laisenia Qarase has been allowed to travel to capital Suva after the country's highest court Monday said it was his individual right that cannot be curbed.

According to Fijilive news service acting Chief Justice Anthony Gates made the ruling after hearing submissions from the military and Qarase's lawyers.

Qarase, who is contesting the overthrow of his government by the military in December last year, has been in exile in his village in the Lau Group for six months now.

Gates said it was in the interest of justice that Qarase has access to Suva and that it was his individual right.

The Military's lawyer Chris Pryde said that there is "absolutely no restraint on Qarase's movements to Suva or anywhere in Fiji."
