Ajay, who had been in the jail since 2005 on charges of murder, succumbed to AIDS after he was admitted to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital here, Tihar Jail spokesman Sunil Gupta said.

"He died due to his illness. It was a natural death," said Gupta.

Harish, another inmate and drug addict, was admitted to the same hospital Saturday evening with stomachache. He died Sunday morning. And Kanwaljeet, a 57-year-old diabetic, died Friday after a brief illness.

The spokesman said Amit, 23, also died in the jail Thursday due to dehydration. The jail administration has ordered a mandatory enquiry into all the deaths.

Gupta ruled out any foul play. "All the victims died a natural death," he said.
