Shimla : Mistaking a leopard cub for a cat, an eight-year-old girl in a Himachal Pradesh village brought the ailing animal home. The cub, however, died soon after.
Kanta Guleria Saturday found the week-old leopard cub in the fields near her house in Sayaral village in Mandi valley, over 150 km from here.
The girl kept the sick cub in a basket and children of the village gathered around to take a look at the animal.
Wildlife officials were called when it was later discovered that the animal was a leopard and not a cat. But the leopard had died, reportedly of starvation, by the time the officials reached the village.
