Arab league warns Lebanon against forming anoyher Government

By NNN-KUNA

Beirut : Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, who engaged himself over the past days in relentless efforts to try thrash out Lebanese disputes, warned the local leaders against prospected declaration of another government in the country.

The local mass-circulation, “An-Nahar,” said in its edition published on Saturday that Moussa, at meetings he held during the mediation mission that concluded on Friday with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Secretary General of Hezbollah Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, warned of dire consequences in case the opposition resorted to the option of forming another government.

Another government in Lebanon will be confronted by all Arabs and Muslims and the Arab League will not recognize it, An-Nahar quoted Moussa as saying during the meeting with the two top opposition figures.

Another daily, “As-Safir,” quoted Lebanese President Emile Lahoud as saying that he would not let Prime Minister Fuad Al-Siniora “govern the country because this would lead to a civil war and not a single Christian will remain in the country.” Lahoud’s term in office is due by the end of the summer.

There have speculations and doubts about his desire to step down as scheduled.

An-Nahar quoted a member of the league delegation as saying that “the current conditions if they remain unchanged are most likely leading to formation of two governments.” Lebanese press reports have indicated that the opposition camp pondered the option to form another government if the loyalists remained adamant on their opposition to forming a national unity government.
