Havana : “The US invasion and occupation of Iraq is an unmitigated disaster and some even say that it is the biggest foreign policy mistake in US history,” said Cliff Durand, of Global Justice Center on Wednesday during the third day of the 19th Conference of Philosophers and Scientists here.
In addition, Durand described the Neo-conservative imperial project as a continuation into the present unipolar world of Cold War liberalism.
“We don’t have enough blood or treasure to impose that on the rest of the world and it should be a fundamental lesson the American people take away from the debacle in Iraq,” he stressed.
“If we don’t learn that lesson, the already seriously damaged American republic and the American people themselves may go the way of Rome,” he concluded.
Cuban Raúl RodrÃguez RodrÃguez, from the Center of Studies on the United States of the University of Havana, said that the new imperialist strategic scenario and Cuba’s resistance against the US’s hegemonic pretensions, has led to Washington’s stiffening of the economic blockade of the island.
“The empire tries to isolate us in the political and diplomatic fields, it supports internal subversion and threatens the Cuban nation with a military aggression,” he noted.
During Wednesday’s sessions, participants highlighted Cuba’s victory at the Human Rights Council, where the mandate of a Special Rappateur for Cuban Affairs imposed by the United States was discontinued.
The 19th Conference of Philosophers and Scientists from Cuba and the United States concludes on Friday, June 22.
