Dortmund : World No. 1 Viswanathan Anand played a second straight draw at Sparkassen Chess Meeting 2007 here when he was held by Hungarian Grandmaster Peter Leko Sunday.
Anand now has one point from two games in the Super GMs event comprising the top eight players of the world.
Vladimir Kramnik of Russia gained a share of the lead by defeating Israel's Boris Gelfand in a positional game in the second round Sunday. Joining Kramnik on 1.5 points was compatriot Evgeny Alekseev, who stunned Shakhriyar Mamedyarov of Azerbaijan in the second round.
The game between 21-year-old German Arkadij Naiditsch, the 2005 Sparkassen champion, and 16-year-old Norwegian prodigy Magnus Carlsen ended in a draw after a tense struggle.
Against Anand's Spanish opening, Leko played the Marshall Attack and put his forces against the Indian's king by sacrificing a pawn.
Anand was well prepared and reduced the attack by trading pieces. In the minor piece endgame, Anand enjoyed a pawn advantage but Leko, Sparkassen winner in 1999 and 2002, had the bishop pair. The two agreed to a draw after 29 moves.
After Monday's rest, Anand will play with black pieces against Gelfand, Mamedyarov meets Kramnik, Carlsen clashes with Alekseev and Leko meets Naiditsch in the third round Tuesday.
Results of Round 2: Alekseev beat Mamedyarov; Kramnik beat Gelfand; Anand drew with Leko; Naiditsch drew with Carlsen
Standings after Round 2: 1. Alekseev and Kramnik 1.5 points each; 3. Anand, Leko, Carlsen and Mamedyarov 1.0 each; 7. Gelfand and Naiditsch 0.5 each.
