Patna, June 26 (IANS) Maoists exploded bombs on a railway track and blocked roads in some areas of Bihar as part of a two-day “economic blockade” Tuesday.
The blockade is to protest against the formation of special economic zones (SEZs) in the country and “police atrocities” against arrested Maoists.
The Maoists exploded two bombs on a railway track in Muzaffarpur district. They stopped traffic in their strongholds in rural parts of Gaya, Jehanabad, Arwal, Nawada, Aurangabad and Patna districts.
In view of the Maoist blockade, nearly a dozen trains were cancelled in Bihar.
The routes of some trains have been changed. “These are precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incidents,” said A.K. Chandra, a railway official.
According to railway sources, all express and passenger trains running between Bihar and neighbouring Jharkhand have been cancelled.
Additional paramilitary forces were deployed at vital government installations, police sources said.
