Sharif funding anti-Musharraf movement?

Islamabad : Pakistan's exiled former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been accused of funding the protests against President Pervez Musharraf following the suspension of chief justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry, media reports said Wednesday.

"The presidential camp firmly believes that the pro-chief justice agitation on the streets is foreign-funded," The News reported. Unnamed sources claim Sharif is funding the movement, it added.

"You probe the matter, you will get to the bottom of things," the sources were quoted as saying.

The newspaper described Musharraf as "a worried man today… he is determined to accept no matter what the court hands down to the nation on the issue of the on-going judicial crisis".

A full bench of the Supreme Court is hearing several petitions over Chaudhry's suspension. According to media reports, the judges have been making observations that are critical of the government.

Chaudhry's March 9 suspension on charges of misusing his office to promote his son has triggered nationwide protests.
