Srinagar : Security forces claimed to have gunned down two militants at Banday Mohalla in Handwara area of North Kashmir , this afternoon. Official sources told News Agency of Kashmir that on pecific information troops of 21 RR and local police launched a joint operation in Banday Mohalla. While cordoning the village troops came under heavy fire of the militants hiding in a house, they added. Giving details, SP Handwara, said a group of militants fired upon Army convoy at Handwara, the other day and later escaped to Banday Mohalla where they were hiding in the house of one Mohammed Amin Banday. He said, on information about the presence of militants, a jointoperation was launched by Handwara Police with assistance of 21-RR, adding the Police zeroed in onto the target house, militants opened indiscriminate fire on them which was duly retaliated. He said two unidentified militant were gunned down. The encounter was on till filing of this report. Two AK Rifles, six magazines and some ammunition was also recovered from the site of encounter.
