Iraq opposes timetable for foreign forces’ pullout

Cairo/Baghdad : The Iraqi government does not want a timetable for the pullout of the multi-national forces from Iraq to be discussed during an international Iraq conference in Egypt, media reports said Wednesday.

According to Iraq News Agency, Deputy Foreign Minister Labeed Abawi said that Iraq did not want any such reference in the concluding statement of the conference on reconstructing Iraq.

The conference will be held on May 3-4 in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Abawi said there were still some points requiring the participant delegations to confer with their governments.

Meanwhile, an Egyptian Foreign Ministry source said that a preparatory meeting on the level of senior officials was held Wednesday in Sharm El-Sheikh to resolve the controversy over the concluding statement.
