Ranchi : Two senior police officials in Jharkhand have been charged with misuse of posts to avail of free benefits and salary.
While Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) J.B. Mahapatra is accused of using un-entitled railway passes, DG reforms V.D. Ram has been charged by the auditor general of taking wrongful salary from a post not officially sanctioned.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Saryu Rai alleged that Mahapatra was posted as DG Jharkhand State Housing Board Corporation (JSHBC), but enjoyed a railway pass he was not entitled to.
“Mahapatra was DG railways June 30-Dec 21, 2005 but he enjoyed railway pass facilities in April 2006 and July 2006,” said a state home department official.
Mahapatra was made the DGP in September 2006 after Madhu Koda took over as chief minister. Ram, who was the DGP, was shifted from the post and made DG reforms, with the additional charge of JSHBC – not an approved DG post.
After his transfer, Ram allegedly drew salary from JSHBC. “He is illegally withdrawing the salary from JSHBC though his post is not a sanctioned one,” the auditor-general’s office said.
