New Delhi : Urdu daily Hindustan Express is all set to organise a seminar on First War of Independence 1857 at Aiwan-e-Ghalib here on June 3, 2007. The seminar aims to address two important aspects of this historical event, which are being widely ignored by both the government machinery and the mainstream media during the ongoing celebrations of 1857: (i) The Role of Urdu Journalism in Freedom Struggle, and (ii) The Role of Ulema in Freedom Struggle.

Distinguished scholars and historians from the various parts of the country are expected to participate in the day-long programme.

The paper considers it a duty to acquaint the new generation with the sacrifices the Muslims, particularly the Ulema and the Urdu media made to liberate the country from the shackles of slavery.

The daily will also bring out a Special issue on the subject. However it is yet to declare the date of the issue.
