Bangalore : The police here have expressed serious concern over the increasing involvement of call centre drivers in the crimes in the city.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police Gopal Hosur, in more than 100 crime cases registered in Bangalore during the past one and a half years people working with call centres or hired by the agencies providing transport services to various organizations were found involved.

“Organisations should step up their security measures and ensure that their employees, who leave offices at odd hours or travel to work at wee hours, are dropped at their residences or offices safely,” Hosur told reporters here Friday.

These culprits target people who worked late at night and travelled at odd hours, or those who reach the city late in the night and look for transport to be dropped back to their places of stay, he said.

Hosur warned people against taking lifts from strangers, and said taxis should not have tinted glasses as it made police checking difficult.

With scores of call centres coming up in the city, there is a huge increase in the number of vehicles operating in the night. “It is not possible to arrange a nakabandi (checking) everyday,” he said.

The police have suggested strengthening of public transport system to meet the needs of employees leaving office sat odd hours.

Hosur said companies with odd working hours should verify the background of the transport agencies they engage.
