New Delhi : At least 48 countries will participate in a two-day conference on disaster risk reduction starting here Wednesday.
“The second Asian Ministerial Conference on disaster risk reduction will begin in the capital from Nov 7. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the two-day conference, while Congress president Sonia Gandhi will deliver the keynote address,” said U.N. Panjiar, secretary for border management in the home ministry.
Panjiar said that over 100 experts and 50 NGOs have also confirmed their participation.The first Asian Ministerial Conference on disaster risk reduction was held in September 2005 at Beijing, China.
“The conference focus would be to review the implementation of the Hyogo Priorities of Action in Asia in the context of various initiatives taken by the national, regional and international governments during the past two years and share the experiences of Asian and Pacific countries in disaster risk reduction,” he said.
