Islamabad : Militants Sunday freed 211 Pakistani soldiers who were kidnapped near the Afghan border two months ago, the army’s top spokesman said.
“The soldiers have returned to the camp in South Waziristan,” Major-General Waheed Arshad said, referring to the tribal region near the Afghan border from where the soldiers were captured on Aug 30 by fighters led by Pakistani Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud.
The soldiers were freed through the efforts of a jirga or a tribal council of elders in South Waziristan, said Maj. Gen. Arshad.
