Shimla, Nov 5 (IANS) A woman who insisted her followers bury her alive has been dug out alive hours after the incident Sunday by the police in a Himachal Pradesh village.
Sapna Kumari, 18, in Chamba valley’s Khalani village some 450 km from here, had been claiming she was the snake goddess being worshipped by villagers for the past three months.
Villagers had been visiting her in large numbers to seek her blessings. On Sunday she insisted they bury her alive (samaadhi) in a deep pit as hundreds — including media persons — watched.
A few hours later a police team led by Chamba police chief S.R. Rana dug out the woman and found her alive. They took her to a hospital.
“She was found to be in good health, but showed signs of hysteria,” the doctor who examined the young woman, Ashish Sharma, said Monday.
