Agartala : A paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) trooper shot dead two of his colleagues following a heated argument and then killed himself in Tripura state Thursday. Another trooper was grievously wounded in the shootout.
Rifleman Bishram Singh, 37, shot dead havildar P.K. Sharma, 38, and constable B.K. Shil Sharma, 39, on the spot after an angry quarrel over allocation of duties at the insurgency prone Jagabandhu Para highway under Gandachara police station, the police said.
Before other troopers could reach the spot, Singh shot himself with his service weapon, an official said.
Singh belonged to Uttar Pradesh, while the other two were from Assam.
Head constable S.S. Ram, 41, a resident of Bihar, was seriously wounded in the shooting in remote Dhalai district’s Jagabandhu Para, 185 km north of Agartala. He was rushed to G.B Pant Hospital here.
The bodies of the deceased will be sent to their homes Friday.
The CRPF is deployed in the area for counter-insurgency operations against separatist rebels.
The CRPF has ordered an inquiry into the incident – the latest in a series of such incidents involving security force personnel turning their service weapons on their colleagues following arguments.
Last year, at least six paramilitary troopers, including an assistant commandant, were killed in similar incidents in Tripura.
