Los Angeles : Five people have been killed in a shooting incident in Temecula of the Riverside County, about 50 km east of Los Angeles, the police said.
Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department in the Riverside County, said the victims included two men and three women all between their 20s and 40s.
The shooting occurred Sunday in Temecula, a quiet community that hasn’t had a murder in several years.
The police rushed to the house about 5.20 p.m. local time after a neighbour reported having heard shots fired.
The police found two men and two women dead from gunshot wounds. The fifth, a woman, died some hours later in hospital.
Gutierrez said the motive for the killing was unknown. No one has been arrested after the killing.
“This is a very close-knit community and it’s very rare to have something like this happen here,” Gutierrez said.
Temecula Police chief Jerry Williams said he couldn’t recall the last murder the city of about 90,000 had seen.
“This is a very upper-middle-class neighbourhood,” he said, standing behind yellow police tape. “And Temecula is a very safe place to live.”
