Bangalore : Lakshmi, the two-year-old who was separated from her parasitic conjoined twin in a complex surgery last week, was removed from invasive monitoring Monday at a super-specialty hospital in Narayana health city here.
According to a medical bulletin from Sparsh Hospital, where Lakshmi is convalescing, she has made significant progress during the last 48 hours and is looking cheerful.
“As Lakshmi is able to tolerate oral semi-solid feeds, we have removed her from invasive monitoring system. Her clinical and bio-chemical parameter continue to be within normal limits,” hospital chairman and chief orthopaedic surgeon Sharan Patil said in the bulletin.
Lakshmi’s parents, – Shambhu and Poonam and brother Mithilesh – have been allowed to spend time with her in the intensive care unit (ICU).
“Lakshmi has been responding well in her interaction with parents and sibling. She is also cooperating with the team of doctors and nurses looking after her round-the-clock,” Patil said.
The child was operated Oct 6-7 to remove her extraneous limbs and reconstruct some of her body parts to enable her to lead a normal life and subsequently walk after going through a rehab and physiotherapy programme.
Lakshmi hails from a remote village (Araria) in Bihar and was brought here Oct 3 after doctors at a Delhi private hospital refused to perform the operation, saying the case was too complex and cost of the surgery prohibitive.
