No spectrum allocation till Dec 12: telecom tribunal

By IANS

New Delhi : The Telecom Disputes and Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) Monday said no spectrum would be allocated to telecom operators till Dec 12.

TDSAT has also directed telecom firms such as Reliance Communications, HFCL, Shyam Telecom, BSNL and MTNL to participate in a petition challenging changes to spectrum allocation norms.

On Oct 19, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), a GSM industry body, had filed a petition at TDSAT against the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

The DoT has permitted operators to use dual technology of mobile telephony such as GSM and CDMA and allowed enhanced subscriber-linked criteria for allocation of additional spectrum, which COAI is protesting.
