Srinagar : Three separatist guerrillas — including an operational commander of a Pakistan-based militant outfit — and an army trooper were killed Monday in an ongoing gunfight in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The long-drawn gunfight in north Kashmir had erupted Sunday afternoon, according to police.

Police said troops of 22 Rashtriya Rifles cordoned off Dooru village, 60 km from here, near the apple town of Sopore, following information that a group of guerrillas was hiding there.

The troopers came under heavy fire from the militants, leading to a fierce gunfight.

“The slain militants include Qari Usman, chief operational commander of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen,” a senior police officer said.

“One trooper also lost his life in the operation,” he added.
