India pledges $8 mn for UN humanitarian activities

United Nations : India has pledged more than $8 million to the United Nations for various developmental and humanitarian activities, South African news agency BuaNews reported Wednesday.

Announcing this at an UN conference Monday, member of Indian delegation to the ongoing UN Conference Vijay Krishna said New Delhi’s contribution to UN is a proof of its commitment to multilateralism and international solidarity in the process of development and poverty eradication.

Krishna said: “India is convinced that the development agenda of the UN must receive the highest interest and attention from the member states.”

Out of the total amount, $4.5 million goes to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the nodal agency for developmental activities; $1.92 million to the World Food Programme (WFP) and $900,000 to UN Children’s Fund (Unicef).

India has pledged to give $80,000 to the UN’s Centre for Human Settlement, and $200,00 each to the UN Development Fund for Women and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.
