Jharkhand traders campaign against crime, poor infrastructure

Ranchi : Unhappy with the worsening law and order situation and poor infrastructure in Jharkhand, small scale traders in the state have launched a campaign to force the government to take action.

The Jharkhand Small Scale Industries Association (JSSIA) has come out with billboards highlighting the problems that traders in the state are facing.

“The talk of industrialisation is useless as there is no power, no road, and no water in the state,” says one of the billboards.

Another says: “There is no land, no conscience, no law and order, no system — this is the situation of Jharkhand.”

The traders have also decided to boycott a trade fair that began here Wednesday.

“The state government has failed to provide infrastructure. The power scenario is deteriorating day-by-day and the government is unable to provide land to the investors,” said Arun Chavaria, president of JSSIA.

“We have launched an awareness campaign among the people so that they choose good representatives who will think and do something for the development of the state. The bad law and order situation has struck terror in the hearts and minds of the traders,” said Vikas Singh, former president of JSSIA.

A sense of insecurity has gripped the businessmen and traders of Jharkhand since the murder of Ashish Dey, co-owner of Sreeleather, in steel city Jamshedpur on Nov 2.

Two unidentified criminals killed Dey, 52, when he was going to his office in Jamshedpur. According to his relatives, Dey had been getting extortion calls for the last six months.
