United Nations : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has called on the international community to double its efforts to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi, member of the UAE delegation at the UN, Saturday told the General Assembly that as a result of continuous violence the living condition of some 4.6 million refugees in camps across Lebanon continued to deteriorate. He urged the world body for more aid and assistance to them, WAM news agency reported Sunday.

Zaabi insisted that a larger allocation of funds must be made to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for improving the basic living condition of the refugees in Lebanon.

The UAE member said especially in north and south Lebanon where the violent attacks that targeted Nahr Al Bared Camp have further displaced a large number of people and destroyed the infrastructure.

All these have aggravated the humanitarian and social crisis of the Palestinians and led to increased deprivation, poverty and unemployment especially among the Palestinian refugees, Zaabi said.

The UAE representative called upon the international community to “shoulder its moral, legal, and humanitarian responsibilities in order to resolve the refugees question”.
