Unique tribute paid to Bangladesh cyclone victims

Bhubaneswar : Hundreds of people in Orissa paid tributes to the victims of the cyclone that killed over 1200 people in Bangladesh.

People thronged the Puri beach, 56 km from here, Sunday and paid tributes near a sand sculpture created by sand artist Sudarsan Patnaik with students of the Golden Sand Art Institute.

The sculpture showed the high tides and scattered body parts with a message near it that read ‘Help the Cyclone Victims’.

Tourists including many foreigners offered flowers as a mark of tribute, Patnaik told IANS on phone.

Local residents also paid their tributes as they themselves were witness to a super cyclone in Orissa in 1999 in which more than 10,000 people were killed.

“After hearing the news of the cyclone in Bangladesh it reminded me the super cyclone that hit our state and how we had suffered. I created the sculpture with the help of students so that people from across the globe come forward and help the victims,” he said.
