Colombo : The troops in Sri Lanka killed 10 Tamil Tigers rebels in clashes in the north, the military said Monday.
Defence officials said that nine Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels were killed in separate confrontations with government troops in the Vavuniya district Sunday.
Another rebel was killed in an engagement between the troops and the rebels in Mannar district.
Fighting between the two sides has been concentrated in the north after the government said in July that the eastern province was free of rebels.
The LTTE has been fighting the government since the mid-1980s to establish a separate homeland for the minority Tamils in the north and east.
