Kabul : A suicide attack Monday targeting the governor of the western Afghan province of Nimruz killed seven people, including his son and bodyguards, and wounded 13, but the governor was unhurt.

The bomber who had strapped explosives around his body blew himself up near the gate of the governor’s office in Zaranj, the provincial capital, Governor Gholum Dastagir Azad told DPA.

“At 8:30 a.m. (local time), as I entered the compound of my office, a bomber detonated a bomb near the gate and killed seven people, including five of my bodyguards,” Azad said and blamed the attack on the Taliban.

The attack took place in a relatively peaceful province that has a long border with Iran.
