Kolkata : A major fire broke out at a chemical fertiliser unit in west Kolkata Tuesday afternoon, gutting four sheds and two residential buildings.

The fire that broke in Kidderpore area was brought under control after two hours of fire fighting. No casualty has been reported.

The fire first broke out at the premises of Marlin Burn Estate Company at the crossing of R.N Pal Road and Satya Dutta Road.

Altogether 11 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames but it quickly spread to adjoining buildings.

The local people, however, vented their ire at the fire brigade, saying the fire fighters arrived almost 90 minutes after the fire broke out.

“Despite informing the fire brigade soon after the blaze, the firemen arrived very late. Owing to the delay, adjoining buildings were damaged. When the team arrived, the blaze had already engulfed a number of buildings in the area,” a disgruntled housewife of R.N Pal Road said.
