Bhopal : Activists of Uma Bharati’s Bharatiya Janashakti (BJS) party attacked a Reliance Fresh store here Thursday.

Uma Bharati, whose re-entry into Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on the cards, came here to hold a rally and demonstrate against Reliance Fresh.

The rally, taken out from Yadgare Shahjahani Park, turned into a meeting outside the Reliance in Sindhi Colony, two km away.

Bharati called upon the people to protest the opening of such stores in their respective areas.

Trouble erupted when she was addressing the meeting.

While she was speaking against the entry of big companies in retail business, party workers entered the store and ransacked it.

“Several BJS activists barged into the store, hurled stones, broke the window panes and threw store furniture and vegetables out on the road,” said a police official.

BJS workers also demonstrated against a Reliance store in Indore.

Protests over Reliance Fresh stores are gaining momentum in Madhya Pradesh. Several demonstrations have been held in places like Jabalpur, Gwalior, Indore and Bhopal.

Bharati had in September forced a Reliance Fresh shop to close down in Indore.
