Kabul : Taliban insurgents killed seven policemen and abducted seven others in an early morning attack on a police check post in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, a district police commander said Friday.
“A group of militants today morning surrounded a police check post in Arghandab district of northern Kandahar,” Abdul Hakim Jan, a district police commander said, and added: “They killed seven policemen and kidnapped another seven”.
Arghandab, a district north of Kandahar city, has seen intensifying fighting between insurgents and Afghan and combined forces over the weeks.
The Taliban, removed from power by the US invasion in late 2001, has waged insurgency against the Afghan administration and the international troops deployed in the country.
Rising militancy-related violent incidents have killed over 5,800 people in the war-torn country so far this year.
