UPA soft on terrorists: BJP

New Delhi : The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday charged the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government with being “soft” on terrorists and said it was the reason for the recurrent terror attacks in India.

Reacting to the simultaneous terror bombings in Lucknow, Faizabad and Varanasi that killed 13 people, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj told newspersons: “Some incidents took place in our time also. But the basic difference between then and now is that we were acting strictly against them (terrorists). We were suppressing them, so they were retaliating sometimes, whereas this government is soft on them.

“The government is giving an all round impression that you can get away with anything and everything,” she added.

“In our times they (terrorists) were caught and killed. We caught and quickly punished them under POTA (Prevention of Terrorism Act). Not a single terrorist has been caught since this government came to power, said Swaraj.

She described the blasts as “gross intelligence failure” and said “we will raise this in the house on Monday.”
