New Delhi : India need just 32 runs for a victory on the fifth day of the first Test match, but Pakistan fast bowler Sohail Tanveer said Sunday that his team will give fight till the last run is scored.
“We haven’t lost the match. You can’t say we have lost it till the last run is taken. We will give them a tough fight till the end,” said debutant Tanveer, in the post match press conference on the fourth day at the Feroze Shah Kotla.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan were bowled out for 247 runs in the second innings and set a target of 203 for India to win. In reply, the hosts were cruising at 171 for three when the stumps were drawn.
Two of the most senior players Sourav Ganguly (48 batting) and Sachin Tendulkar (32 batting) were at the crease as they brought India close to victory.
“I think a target of 300 runs would have been better. Today there was no movement from the track and the fast bowlers were helpless,” said Tanveer.
Asked what was the turning point in the match, Tanveer said: “I think Kamran bhai’s dismissal and my wicket was the turning point of the match. We lost two quick wickets.”
Kamran Akmal (21) and Tanveer (13) departed within a span of just 16 runs leaving the Pakistan team in tatters.
On his debut, Tanveer said: “I feel when any cricketer is satisfied with his performance then he stops performing. I don’t think even Sachin bhai is ever satisfied with his performance.”
Asked whether there was any pressure on him in the match, he added: “I haven’t taken any pressure. When you take pressure you can’t perform.”
