Servant commits suicide after employer’s mysterious death

New Delhi : A 15-year-old male servant committed suicide in southwest Delhi Thursday, a day after his employer died in mysterious circumstances, the police said.

Chhotu, as the boy was identified, hanged himself in the morning when all family members had gone to the Masoodpur village crematorium to perform the funeral ceremonies of Varun Malik.

No suicide note has been recovered yet.

The family had brought Chhotu, a native of Nagaland, to its Vasant Kunj house seven years ago from an eatery joint in the city.

The family suspected he might have committed suicide as he was very close to Varun.

Varun, 21, an engineering student, died late Wednesday. According to police, he fell prey to a bullet when he and his three friends – Sachin, Nitin and Moti – were inspecting a gun that accidentally went off.

Moti, who lives nearby, was missing since Wednesday night.

Varun was rushed to the Fortis Hospital, but was declared brought dead.

The police registered a case of murder only after Varun’s family protested outside the police station Thursday, alleging that he was murdered.

“It is not an accident and my son was murdered. Moti was not his friend as claimed by everyone. My son had a scuffle with him a few days ago in a gym run by my brother,” said Sulekh Malik, a builder.

The police said they had fanned out teams to arrest Moti and would again interrogate Sachin and Nitin.
