New Delhi : Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Mani Shankar Aiyar has congratulated Vishwanathan Anand on being crowned the new world chess champion.
Aiyar in a statement Monday said: “I am pleased, as all Indians are, to hear of your (Anand’s) thrilling win at the World Chess Championship in Mexico. Wrestling the championship from an array of stars and simultaneously passing the 2800-mark ELO rating is a brilliant achievement. This is an immensely proud moment for all Indians.”
“I join millions of my compatriots in congratulating you on this momentous victory bringing glory to our nation. Please accept my good wishes for your continued success in the international arena,” Aiyar said.
Anand won the World Chess Championships Sunday in Mexico City after a quick 20-move draw against Peter Leko of Hungary.
