Muslim leader in Germany urges unity in Ramadan

BERLIN, Oct 6 (KUNA) — A Muslim leader in Germany said Saturday that the holy month of Ramadan was as a good occasion for Muslims here and around the world to be united.
Ayyub Koeler, head of Germany’s Supreme Council of Muslims, voiced his views in an interview with the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), expressing much satisfaction and happiness at the Muslim fasting month thanks to its spiritual links to worshipping, true belief and Muslim unity.

Ramadan in Germany takes place in a totally different atmosphere than in countries with a Muslim majority. Public and social life continues with the same pace and the day is not interrupted for Iftar (breakfast meal).

He pointed to intensive communication and cooperation among all members of the Muslim community in Germany, especially in the holy month of Ramadan.
Koeler hailed Ramadan as an occasion for Muslims in Germany to bolster and cement social ties and to get closer to their German neighbors.

He also stressed the significance of Ramadan in Germany in the holding of more talks and discussions among Muslims and Germans in order for both sides to obtain a sincere and realistic image of each other.

On Muslim-German dialogue, Koeler, who is from Germany, said dialogue was regrettably restricted to the level of individuals rather than officials, who, unfortunately, lacked in a realistic will to have objective dialogue with Muslims in Germany.
