Thai firms keen to invest in India

By NNN-TNA

Bangkok : Several Thai firms are interested in investing in northeastern India after their executives visited several vital industrial plants in the region recently, said Commerce Minister Krirkkrai Jirapaet.

For example, Ch Karnchang Pcl. has expressed interest to invest in infrastructure projects such as road and dam construction, and hydroelectric plants as the New Delhi government has a policy to allocate about US$1.5 billion on these projects as well as granting special privileges to private investors who would undertake the projects, said Mr. Krirkkrai.

Ch Karnchang is now studying details of the projects and plans to negotiate in detail with its Indian counterparts, he said.

Also, two Thai orchid firms are also considering a joint investment with Indian business interests in growing flowers for export and producing spices in northeastern India, Mr. Krirkkrai added.
