Over five million Sudanese are memorizers of Quran

Khartoum : There are over five million memorizers of the Holy Quran in Sudan, according Sheikh Edris, secretary general of the country’s University Students’ Association. Sheikh Edris, who was visiting the 15th International Holy Quran Exhibition in Tehran’s Mosalla, noted that Muslims make up 70 percent of Sudan’s population. “Reading and memorizing Quran is of great significance among the Sudanese Muslims,” he added. “There are numerous Quranic centers in the country and Quranic activities are carried out in most governmental bodies and organizations, IQNA quoted him as saying.

Sheikh Edris said that there are three universities in Sudan that are devoted to Quranic fields. “Quran memorization, the interpretation of Quran, and Islamic philosophy and thought are some of the fields presented in these universities,” he said. Sheikh Edris also highlighted the importance of Islamic unity saying “the Holy Quran invites all Muslims to unity and solidarity, so that is what we, Muslims, should be trying to achieve.” Sheikh Edris also lauded the idea of holding Quranic exhibition like the one held in Tehran during the holy month of Ramadan.
